The Forest
Responding to the set of grand challenges that humankind is facing require more than ever that scientists advance their understanding of the planet, its processes and its interactions with human activities and translate that knowledge into novel solutions for society. The joint EC-ESA Earth System Science Initiative aims at joining forces to advance science as the bedrock to build a green and sustainable society. This Forest and its growing trees represent both an idealistic view of how we can collectively work together to grow our scientific knowledge but also a small practical example of how we can all contribute to build a greener and better future.
Impact
The trees we plant have big ambitions: to bring benefits not only to the environment, but also to the people who live in it. That's why we work with NGOs and local communities to select the right tree for the right place and the right purpose. That’s why we think about the medium and long term, because we’re not content with simply planting trees: we want to see them grow.
