The Forest
At the SSPH+ Lugano Summer School in Public Health Policy, Economics, and Management (LSS), practitioners, researchers, and graduate students come together from all over the world for a unique learning experience focused on public health impact. The LSS places health, disease, and health systems thinking under one common framework of coherent concepts and practical implications. Starting with our roots in Ascona Switzerland in 1991 and moving to Lugano in 2009, the school has trained and shared experiences with over 2,000 participants from all over the world. In recent history, over 50 countries are represented in the school every summer. Since 2022, we are a hybrid school, offering both onsite and online learning which expands our reach and mutual learning opportunities at the same time reducing our environmental impact.
The courses are intended for professionals and managers of health administrations, hospitals and other services and facilities within the health sector, policy-makers and students. The education obtained and networks created serve as an opportunity to reduce and prevent the gap between public health theory and practice. We offer an opportunity to meet new colleagues and peers, to exchange knowledge, build networks and share insights, all for the purpose of mutual learning for change.
Impact
The trees we plant have big ambitions: to bring benefits not only to the environment, but also to the people who live in it. That's why we work with NGOs and local communities to select the right tree for the right place and the right purpose. That’s why we think about the medium and long term, because we’re not content with simply planting trees: we want to see them grow.
