The Forest
Last year we launched our Environmental Policy ‘In Balance with the World’ aiming to support global climate action. We chose to support the restoration of the forests which is the most powerful climate change solution. Trees are natural technology designed to capture carbon, prevent soil erosion, retain biodiversity, and support food production. This year when HAE celebrates its 25th anniversary, our Team in Nairobi, popularly known as the 'Green City in the Sun', is taking over a collective environmental commitment. The HAE Forest will be planted in Kenya in cooperation with Treedom enhancing the planet and supporting local communities. Our Nairobi Team selected the Oaktree as a symbol of our project because just like HAE, the oak tree is indigenously found on all continents. It manifests strength, resilience, unity, wisdom, and honour. At this moment of a terrible decline, we join a story of purposeful recovery.“When we plant trees, we plant the seeds of peace and seeds of hope. We also secure the future for our children” (Wangarĩ Muta Maathai, a Kenyan activist and the first African woman to win the Nobel Peace Prize).
Impact
The trees we plant have big ambitions: to bring benefits not only to the environment, but also to the people who live in it. That's why we work with NGOs and local communities to select the right tree for the right place and the right purpose. That’s why we think about the medium and long term, because we’re not content with simply planting trees: we want to see them grow.
The trees in the forest will absorb:
168.30 t* of CO₂
